Sky Arte documentary and exhibition on the Griffoni Polyptych
Sky Arte will broadcast the documentary 'La riscoperta di un capolavoro – Il Polittico Griffoni' on April 30, 2020, ahead of the exhibition originally scheduled for March 12 in Bologna. The exhibition, postponed due to the coronavirus emergency, will bring together all sixteen panels of the Griffoni Polyptych at Palazzo Fava once safe reopening is possible. Created between 1470 and 1472 by Francesco del Cossa and Ercole de' Roberti for the Griffoni family chapel in the Basilica of San Petronio, the altarpiece was dismantled in the 18th century and its panels are now dispersed across nine major museums worldwide. The documentary features interviews with Fabio Roversi-Monaco (president of Genus Bononiae), curator Mauro Natale, James Bradburne (director of the Pinacoteca di Brera), and Adam Lowe (president of Factum Foundation). It explores the work's history and artistic power, while faithful reproductions by Factum Foundation allow viewers to experience the original monumental altarpiece. The project also highlights 15th-century Bologna under the Bentivoglio dynasty as a vibrant Renaissance center.
