Sky Arte dedicates a night to Rudolf Nureyev with documentary and performance
Sky Arte HD will air 'Nureyev Night' on Friday, March 17, featuring a docu-drama and a performance by Bolshoi Ballet star Artem Ovcharenko. The evening begins with 'Rudolf Nureyev – Danza per la libertà', focusing on the four months before his defection at Paris airport on June 16, 1961. The story is told through the perspectives of ballerina Alla Osipenko, rival Sergei Vikulov, friend Clara Saint, and dancer-choreographer Pierre Lacotte. Ovcharenko portrays Nureyev in dance sequences. The program also includes an episode of 'Artists in Love' exploring Nureyev's turbulent relationship with Erik Bruhn, whom he met in Copenhagen. Bruhn later died of an incurable illness, with Nureyev by his side.
