SJC House by Felipe Hess Arquitetos: A Study in Subtractive Volumetry

In São José dos Campos, Brazil, Felipe Hess Arquitetos has completed the SJC House, a 520-square-meter residence within an established gated community. The project, finished in 2024, responds to a constrained street front and neighboring structures through an orthogonal volume with minimal finishes, relying on precise subtractions to articulate the composition. Collaborators included Felipe Hess, Pia Quagliato, and Thais de Freitas, with interior design by Felipe Hess and Patricia Sturm. Photographs were taken by Fran Parente. The house was curated by Susanna Moreira and featured on ArchDaily, with press handled by Vestigare Agency. The design prioritizes a clean, unadorned aesthetic, using paint as the only finish, and the architectural language emphasizes clarity and restraint.
