Six Senses London opens in historic Whiteley's department store

The Six Senses London hotel has opened in the former Whiteley's department store in Bayswater, marking the UK debut of the luxury wellness brand. The £1.5bn redevelopment by Foster + Partners transformed the Grade II-listed landmark into 139 luxury apartments (launched 2023) and the hotel, which opened last month. The hotel offers 109 rooms and suites plus 14 branded residences. Interior design by AvroKO in collaboration with EPR Architects blends post-Victorian, art deco, and early modernist influences, referencing the building's history as a department store founded by William Whiteley after his visit to the 1851 Great Exhibition. The property includes a 2,300 sq m spa in the former vaults with a ceramic installation by Ula Saniawa, a biohacking lounge, hyperbaric chamber, and Hum2n longevity clinic. Dining options include Whiteley's Bar, a tea lounge, and Whitley's Kitchen led by executive chef Eliano Crespi. The sole surviving original feature is a restored cast-iron staircase.
