Six Photographers Reimagine Rome's Garbatella District in New Project
10b Photography presents 'Visioni,' the first chapter of the triennial project Garbatella Images, running from April 10 to 20, 2021. The exhibition occupies the gallery spaces and lots 24, 29, 30, and 55, featuring six selected photographers: Mary Baldo, Luca Brunetti, Luigi Cecconi, Simone D'Angelo, Federica Leone, and Linda Pezzano. Curated by Francesco Rombaldi of YOGURT Magazine in collaboration with curator Sara Alberani and artistic director Francesco Zizola, the project includes a photographic volume—the first of three—with a cover by illustrator Mattia Ammirati. The initiative aims to foster connections with the urban environment and community during pandemic isolation. Each artist offers a unique interpretation: Cecconi's collages evoke the district's maritime origins; D'Angelo reconstructs a werewolf legend reflecting pandemic fears; Leone self-isolates in lot 21 to explore mental boundaries; Balbo re-photographs family album images; Brunetti captures nocturnal, blurred dreamscapes; Pezzano investigates feminine presence in the neighborhood's history. Garbatella, celebrating its centenary, is presented as a model for rethinking urban living, with photography serving as a tool for memory and visionary exploration.
