Six Photographers Capture Trentino's Identity at Mart Rovereto

The Mart museum in Rovereto hosts 'Trentino Unexpected,' a group exhibition featuring six internationally renowned photographers—Simone Bramante, Francesco Jodice, Gabriele Micalizzi, Roselena Ramistella, Massimo Sestini, and Newsha Tavakolian. Curated by Denis Curti, the show runs until November 9, 2025, and stems from a collaboration between Trentino Marketing and publisher Gribaudo, originating from the book 'Trentino Unexpected – Sei sguardi internazionali sul cuore autentico del Trentino' presented at the 2025 Turin Book Fair. The exhibition presents 86 photographs organized into six sections, one per artist, exploring three macro-themes: landscape aesthetics (interpretation of places), territorial identity (alpine geography), and sustainability. Display formats range from medium formats to large-scale prints, using grids, diptychs, and both traditional and unconventional setups. The show concludes with 53 behind-the-scenes images and video stories documenting the research process in Trentino. Curti emphasizes the region's morphological 'grammar,' describing how rock colors—black (lack of oxygen), red (iron), white (gypsum), gray (marble)—and lichens reveal geological history. He notes that Trentino's beauty lies in its suspended time, free from nostalgia, and that its landscapes are not postcards but the daily work of people who have accumulated time and energy to live within open boundaries.
