Six New York Galleries Transform Former School into Hudson Valley Art Space

exhibition · 2026-04-26

In Claverack, Hudson Valley, six New York galleries—Bortolami, James Cohan, kaufmann repetto, Anton Kern, Andrew Kreps, and kurimanzutto—have collaborated to establish The Campus, a new exhibition venue in a repurposed school. The grand opening is set for June 29, featuring a group exhibition curated by Timo Kappeller that showcases 80 of the 200 represented artists. Noteworthy attractions include outdoor installations and a unique choreographic performance by William Forsythe on the former football field. Featured artists encompass Nairy Baghramian, Daniel Buren, Anthea Hamilton, and others. The gym will display a light installation by Andrea Bowers and a sculpture by Yinka Shonibare. The Ockawamick School, built in 1952 and closed in 2021, previously served as a filming location for Pretty Little Liars. The space will operate on summer weekends and will eventually host workshops, film screenings, performances, and conferences, with two areas managed by NXTHVN, a Connecticut-based artistic incubator. This initiative mirrors a similar endeavor by Jack Shainman Gallery, which transformed a school in Kinderhook into The School in 2013.
