Six New Art Books: From Martin Parr's Beach Photography to Japanese Emaki Scrolls

Artribune highlights six recently published art and culture books. Martin Parr's "Vita da spiaggia" (Contrasto, 2020, €21.90) collects his humorous and corrosive beach photographs from China to Argentina, Thailand, India, Japan, and Britain. Emiliano Mancuso's "Una diversa bellezza" (Contrasto, 2020, €35), curated by Renata Ferri for Zona, features over 200 images from the photographer who died in 2018 at 46, documenting Italy's economic, political, and social landscape from 2003 to 2018. "Reinventa l'arte" (24 Ore Cultura, 2020, €10.90) by Anne Weiss offers children aged 3+ over 60 stickers to play with famous artworks, inspired by Marcel Duchamp. "100 anni di Novella 2000" (Morellini, 2020, €19.50) by Roberto Alessi traces Italian social change through the gossip magazine's covers, with contributions from Luigi Pirandello, Grazia Deledda, and Gabriele D'Annunzio, and direction by Giorgio Scerbanenco and Enzo Biagi, who rebranded it in 1967. Marco Milione's "Per un'introduzione sugli emaki" (Mimesis, 2020, €16) is the first monograph on Japanese illustrated scrolls, focusing on Heian period yamato-e painting styles. "PAN – uno studio sull'isolamento" is the first ebook from Incontri di fotografia, an Umbrian hub founded by photographer Valeria Pierini, created with photography course students as a collective reflection on isolation.
