Six New Art Books: From Lorenzo Lotto to Hell and Renaissance

publication · 2026-04-27

A weekly roundup of six new art publications. Enrico Maria Dal Pozzolo compiles the first complete catalogue of Lorenzo Lotto's paintings in nearly 50 years, a 620-page volume published by Skira. Seymour Chwast and Steven Heller release 'Hell: An Illustrated Guide to the Underworld' with Corraini, an encyclopedic yet compact book exploring various cultural depictions of hell. Davide Mariani's 'Art and Fashion: History and Results of a Restless Partnership' (Postmedia Books) examines the fraught relationship between art and fashion. Raffaele Gavarro's 'Avanti & Indietro: 16 Conversations on Art in Time and Analog-Digital Reality' (Maretti) continues his exploration of the 'analogicodigitale' concept through dialogues with sixteen artists. Carlo Sala edits 'States of Tension: Conversations on Image, Society and Politics' (Silvana Editoriale), stemming from a 2017 project at the Mu.Fo.Co. museum in Cinisello Balsamo, featuring sixteen interviews with photographers. Bernard Aikema's 'The Renaissances in Europe 1480-1620: Art, Geography and Power' (Libri Scheiwiller) argues for a polycentric view of the Renaissance, challenging singular narratives.
