Six New Art Books: From Le Corbusier to Pimpa
This week's six new art books cover a wide range of topics. Mario Ferrari's 'Le Corbusier. Hospital in Venice 1963-1970' (Ilios, Bari 2022) details the unrealized hospital project in Venice, from Le Corbusier's invitation by mayor Giovanni Favaretto Fisca in 1961 to his death in 1965, and the eventual abandonment in 1978 when the site moved to Mestre. Suzanna Ivanič's 'Catholica. Le immagini della fede cristiana' (Rizzoli, Milano 2022) explores the paradox of religious imagery in a secular context, juxtaposing high art with carnival celebrations. 'Pimpa alla Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria' (Franco Cosimo Panini, Modena 2022) is a guide for children featuring Altan's Pimpa, produced after the museum's reopening under director Marco Pierini. Lucilla Meloni's 'Gianni Colombo. La modulazione dello spazio' (Postmedia Books, Milano 2022) is a thematic monograph focusing on Colombo's early years with Gruppo T and his modulation of space. 'Weston. Edward, Brett, Cole, Cara. Una dinastia di fotografi' (Skira, Milano 2022), curated by Filippo Maggia, presents the Weston family photography dynasty, including Edward, his sons Brett and Cole, and granddaughter Cara, with an exhibition at Museo di Santa Giulia in Brescia until July 24. 'Eyeshot Magazine #8 – Bulgaria' (Eyeshot, Bologna 2022) is a street photography magazine featuring 17 local photographers, available in limited edition paper copies and paired with NFTs on Opensea.
