Six Japanese Glass Artists at Esh Gallery in Milan
Esh Gallery in Milan presents an exhibition of six Japanese glass artists, running until November 26. The show explores glass as a hybrid medium between art, design, and craftsmanship. Ryo Sekino displays two vases with soft, milky white forms incised with thread-like fissures that capture light, echoing the Kintsugi tradition but using light instead of gold. Runa Kosogawa's "The petal that reminds" is a blue, melancholic petal shaped like an obsidian spearpoint. Shohei Yokoyama, a finalist for the LOEWE Craft Prize, creates works that trap the fluid state of glass in fibrous ribbons, forming dancing vortices. Ōki Izumi, a Milan-based artist, uses industrial glass in glaucous, aquamarine colors to build enigmatic, layered architectures resembling miniature skyscrapers, inspired by nature and Zen culture. Yoshiaki Kojiro produces dense, almost impenetrable pieces: "Sinking Composition" simulates snow with deep gouges, while "Structural blue" has a smooth, velvety exterior and rough, granular interior.
