cultural-heritage · 2026-04-28

Right now, the fourth round of the International School of Cultural Heritage is underway, with 23 heritage professionals from 12 African nations participating. This program is part of Italy's Mattei Plan for Africa and features a mix of online classes and hands-on experiences at six Italian museums, including Museo delle Civiltà, Archaeological Parks of Praeneste and Gabii, and others. After a week of talks in Rome from April 20-24, the participants will continue practical activities until May 22, focusing on "Managing Art Collections: from ancient to contemporary." Launched in 2019, the initiative has backing from Italy's Ministry of Culture. Minister Alessandro Giuli highlighted cultural diplomacy’s significance, while Gerardo Villanacci emphasized the Italian museums' collaboration. Participants come from Algeria, Angola, Congo-Brazzaville, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Senegal, Tanzania, and Tunisia.
