Six International Artists Reinterpret Bologna's Museum Collections at MAMbo

In Bologna, MAMbo has launched a new group exhibition called 'The Floating Collection,' curated by Lorenzo Balbi and Caterina Molteni, which will be on display throughout autumn 2022. This exhibition showcases the work of six international artists: Alex Ayed (born 1989, Strasbourg), Rä di Martino (born 1975, Rome), Cevdet Erek (born 1974, Istanbul), David Jablonowski (born 1982, Bochum), Miao Ying (born 1985, Shanghai), and Alexandra Pirici (born 1982, Bucharest). Each artist was invited to reinterpret pieces from Bologna's civic museums after participating in residencies at institutions like Museo Civico Archeologico and Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna. The exhibition features diverse media, including installation and video, aiming to challenge conventional museum narratives. Highlights include Erek's 'Colonne delle Curiosità' and Ying's 'Pilgrimage into Walden XII, Chapter one: The Honor of Shepherds.' The catalog, edited by Molteni, serves as an atlas detailing the sites visited and includes contributions from three artist-writers. Balbi envisions MAMbo as a 'museum-laboratory' that encourages innovative languages and contexts.
