Six Frank Lloyd Wright restoration projects across the US

Following a three-year conservation at Fallingwater, Dezeen rounds up six ongoing or completed restorations of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings. The Fallingwater project addressed envelope issues like leaks, caused by Wright's decision not to install through-wall flashing, according to Architectural Preservation Studio president Pamela Jerome. In Mississippi, the Mississippi Museum of Art purchased the J Willis Hughes House (Fountainhead house) in Jackson, inspired by Crystal Bridges Museum's 2014 relocation of the Bachman-Wilson House. The Hillside Theatre on Wright's Taliesin estate in Wisconsin reopened in 2024 after a five-year refurbishment that resolved water infiltration and upgraded utilities. Diller Scofidio + Renfro was selected in 2022 to renovate the Kalita Humphreys Theater in Dallas, Texas, Wright's only standalone theatre, but the project is stalled. The RW Lindholm House, a 1950s Usonian home, was deconstructed in 2016, moved over 1,000 miles from Minnesota to Pennsylvania, and reconstructed. The Price Tower in Oklahoma faced a 2024 legal battle between its owner and the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy over unapproved sales; the case was settled, and a new owner plans a major renovation. Groups like the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation oversee preservation efforts, including legal battles and relocations.
