Six Emerging Italian Photographers at CAMERA Torino for FUTURES 2018

CAMERA Centro Italiano per la Fotografia in Turin presents FUTURES 2018, a group exhibition featuring six young Italian photographers: Umberto Coa, Teresa Giannico, Vittorio Mortarotti, Armando Perna, Lorenzo Pingitore, and Anna Positano. Curated by Giangavino Pazzola, the show opens October 4 and runs through November 4 in the museum's Project room. The exhibition is part of the European Union-funded FUTURES platform, which connects ten prestigious European photography institutions to support emerging talent. Each institution selects its own emerging photographers and promotes them locally and internationally. The six artists were previously shown at UNSEEN Amsterdam, which concluded September 23. The selection committee included Ilaria Bonacossa (Artissima), Diane Dufour (LeBal Paris), Francesca Lavazza (collector), Beatrice Merz (Fondazione Merz), and Walter Guadagnini (director of CAMERA). Coa's project reconstructs archival images from 1915 related to Italy's entry into World War I. Giannico creates paper dioramas of domestic interiors, later destroyed. Mortarotti documents trance rituals in Africa. Perna maps seismic territories in Calabria using historical documents. Pingitore inserts a white sphere into various landscapes. Positano captures a chaotic waterfront in Genoa.
