festival-fair · 2026-05-12

The 17th edition of Independent art fair, running May 14–17, 2026 at Pier 36 in New York, features six galleries presenting solo booths dedicated to Asian artists. Founder Elizabeth Dee notes this reflects a broader art world shift amid globalization and post-empire challenges. Taiwanese artist Tseng Chien-Ying (b. 1987) makes his U.S. debut with Kiang Malingue, New York, showing works created in Taiwan and at 99Canal residency. Japanese painter Rika Minamitani (b. 1998) debuts a cutwork technique with Tomio Koyama Gallery, Tokyo. Chinese artist, writer, and curator Pu Yingwei (b. 1989) introduces his concept of 'ChinAmerica' with Galerie Sator, addressing U.S.-China relations. Kentucky-based Dianna Settles (b. 1989) presents works with March, New York, focusing on local community and personal narratives. South Korean artist Kyojun Lee (b. 1955) shows early photography and new sculpture with PIBI Gallery, Seoul, tracing his evolution from conceptual art to geometric abstraction. Japanese painter Masanori Maeda (b. 1963), a Tokyo University of the Arts graduate, presents new abstractions using Nihonga techniques with A Lighthouse called Kanata.
