Six Artists Shortlisted for London's Fourth Plinth Commission with Public Exhibition and Online Feedback
Six international artists have been shortlisted for London's Fourth Plinth Commission, with proposals displayed at the National Gallery until 4 July. The artists include Nicole Eisenman, Samson Kambalu, Goshka Macuga, Ibrahim Mahama, Teresa Margolles, and Paloma Varga Weisz. Through a partnership with Google Arts & Culture, the public can view the proposals online and provide feedback that will influence the judging panel's decision. The winning sculptures will be announced in June and installed on Trafalgar Square's Fourth Plinth in 2022 and 2024. Mayor of London Sadiq Khan described this as the most international lineup to date for what he called the world's most high-profile public art prize. Heather Phillipson's current sculpture THE END will remain on display until September 2022. The exhibition and online engagement are part of Khan's Let's Do London campaign to encourage visitors back to the city as pandemic restrictions ease.
