Six Art Books to Buy: From Cagli to Serra
Raffaele Bedarida's 'Corrado Cagli' (Donzelli, 2018) fills a gap on the artist's American decade (1938-1947), a period of exile due to racial laws. Bedarida teaches at Cooper Union, New York. The preface is by Enrico Crispolti. Meyer Schapiro's 'Picasso' (Christian Marinotti, 2017) argues Picasso was not an eclectic, applying Schapiro's theory of style. Originally part of 'Between Einstein and Picasso'. Pietro Consagra's autobiography 'Vita mia' (Skira, 2017) won the Premio Mondello in 1980. This reprint includes a postface by Luca Massimo Barbero. Alessandra Galasso's 'Frida vestida' (24 Ore Cultura, 2018) explores Frida Kahlo's clothing and accessories, aiming to de-iconize her. Marco Scotini edited a bilingual volume on Gianni Pettena (Sternberg Press, 2018), stemming from a 2017 exhibition at Galleria Bonelli, Milan. It includes a 1972 conversation between Pettena and Robert Smithson. Vincenzo Estremo and Francesco Federici's 'Albert Serra' (Mimesis, 2017) examines the filmmaker's work across art and cinema, noting his exhibitions at Tate and Pompidou, and participation in Venice Biennale, Documenta, Cannes, and Locarno.
