publication · 2026-05-04

Artribune reviews six recent Italian art publications centered on the theme of sharing artistic practices. The first is 'MAUA – Museo di Arte Urbana Aumentata' (Terre di Mezzo, 2017), which documents an augmented reality museum of street art in Milan, now expanding to Sicily, where 50 young designers animate works via smartphone. Next, 'Desmond Morris – Le vite dei surrealisti' (Johan & Levi, 2018) offers personal biographies of surrealists by the renowned zoologist and last living surrealist. 'Martina Corgnati – Impressioniste' (Nomos, 2018) highlights four female Impressionists: Berthe Morisot, Eva Gonzalès, Mary Cassatt, and Marie Bracquemond. 'Eugenio Riccomini – L’altro Ottocento' (Pendragon, 2018) shifts focus to lesser-known 19th-century artists from Russia, Germany, and Austria. 'Simonetta Fadda – Definizione zero' (Meltemi, 2017) is an expanded edition of a classic on video art history, with a preface by Bruno Di Marino. Finally, 'Chiara Mu & Paolo Martore (a cura di) – Performance Art' (Castelvecchi, 2018) collects writings and interviews by artists and scholars including Bruce Nauman, Allan Kaprow, Claire Bishop, and the Yes Men.
