SITE Santa Fe Reopens with Major Expansion by SHoP Architects
SITE Santa Fe, a pioneering contemporary art biennial venue in New Mexico, reopens in October 2017 with a new 3,344-square-meter expansion designed by SHoP Architects. The project adds indoor and outdoor spaces, including the SITE lab—a 2,000-square-meter experimental gallery—an auditorium, a learning lab, a student workspace, the Sky Terrace, a bookshop, and a café. The inaugural exhibition on October 5, titled "Future Shock," features works by Doug Aitken, Andreas Gursky, and a solo show by Kota Ezawa. Originally opened in 1995, the institution occupies a former beer warehouse renovated by Richard Gluckman, with later contributions from Todd Williams, Billie Tsien, David Adjaye, and Greg Lynn. Director Irene Hofmann stated the expansion strengthens the museum's capacity to showcase avant-garde contemporary art and broadens the traditional museum experience.
