Sisyphus/Trans/Form Performance and Exhibitions at Collezione Maramotti
Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia hosts a performance cycle by Greek choreographer Dimitris Papaioannou titled Sisyphus/Trans/Form, running until October 27, 2019, as part of Festival Aperto 2019. The performance features a wall as a contemporary symbol of geopolitical divisions, with performers physically struggling against it. Concurrently, exhibitions of Helen Cammock and Mona Osman are on view. Cammock, a 2019 Turner Prize nominee and 2018 Max Mara Prize winner, presents the video work 'Che si può fare' until February 16, 2020. The video, titled after a 1664 lament by composer Barbara Strozzi, documents Cammock's travels across Italian cities including Bologna, Florence, Venice, Rome, Palermo, and Reggio Emilia, where she interviewed musicians, historians, artists, partisans, migrants, and a nun, creating a choral narrative on women's experiences. Mona Osman's first Italian exhibition, 'Rhizome and the Dizziness of Freedom,' features five oil paintings in the Pattern Room until February 16, 2020. The works, with thick brushstrokes and intense colors, reference Klimt, Ensor, Mondrian, and Picasso, exploring themes of selfhood through chaotic scenes titled 'Eaten by Facticity,' 'Sodom and Gomorrah,' and 'Self Crucifixion.' The performance is the sixth in a series supported by Collezione Maramotti, Max Mara, and Fondazione I Teatri.
