Sissi's 'We Are Made of Others' Transforms Christmas Tree at Casa Musumeci Greco

exhibition · 2026-04-26

At Casa Musumeci Greco in Rome's Piazza dell'Orologio, collector Ines Musumeci continues her tradition of commissioning artist-designed Christmas trees, now in its ninth edition since 2017. For 2025, artist Sissi (Daniela Olivieri, born 1977 in Bologna) has created a site-specific installation titled 'We Are Made of Others.' Departing from the conventional tree shape, Sissi uses a thin silver and gold thread that zigzags through domestic spaces, populated with painted glass balls. Each ball bears a portrait of someone who has shaped the artist, reflecting on identity and relationships during Christmas. The installation is deliberately obstructive, meant to be navigated around, symbolizing the tensions and affections that surface during the holiday season. The work is visible by appointment until January 7, 2026. Previous artists in the series include Alfredo Pirri, Silvia Giambrone, and Giovanni De Angelis.
