Siruela republishes Joanna Russ's feminist horror analysis 'Alguien me quiere asesinar… y creo que es mi marido'

Spanish publisher Siruela has reissued Joanna Russ's 1973 book 'Alguien me quiere asesinar… y creo que es mi marido' (original English title: 'Someone Is Trying to Kill Me… and I Think It's My Husband'), a critical analysis of how Gothic fiction perpetuates the victim role of middle-class women. The book examines how cultural works, consciously or unconsciously, reinforced the normalization of domestic violence against women in the 20th century, particularly when produced for and by women. Russ argues that this literature served as a tool to maintain the status quo, especially targeting white middle-class women. The reissue comes amid ongoing headlines about gender-based crimes, highlighting the continued relevance of Russ's critique.
