Siris: Contemporary Art Meets Archaeology in Basilicata's Herakleia Park
Founded by artist Edoardo Tresoldi, the multidisciplinary lab STUDIO STUDIO STUDIO has introduced Siris to enrich the Archaeological Park of Herakleia located in Policoro, Matera, Basilicata. Under the direction of Antonio Oriente, this initiative targets the Vallata Mediana, which features important ancient structures such as the Archaic Temple and Sanctuary of Demeter, known for their limited accessibility. Siris intends to forge a connection between artists and the 7th-century BCE Greek settlement through reversible, non-invasive methods that emphasize archaeological findings. From September 2024 to spring 2025, artists including Gijs Van Vaerenbergh, Selva Aparicio, Max Magaldi, Claudia Fabris, and Giovanni Troilo will contribute to the Ecomuseo Archeologico, highlighting the relevance of contemporary art.
