Sini Majuri's melting glass eyewear at Venice Biennale 2026

Finnish artist Sini Majuri presents 'It's Getting Hot in Here,' a sculptural eyewear piece at Etnia House of Arts during the Venice Art Biennale 2026. The work combines hand-worked glass, ethically produced gold leaf, and original eyeglass components. Despite its melting form, the object retains folding mechanics of functional eyewear, blurring lines between sculpture, design, and optical instrument. The distorted lenses suggest a breakdown in visual systems' capacity to interpret contemporary reality, addressing image saturation and mediated experience. Glass components were crafted at Essis by Lasilinkki Studio in Kuopio, Finland; gold leaf supplied by Kultaus Snellman Oy. The piece operates as a study of perception and material transformation.
