Singapore Exhibitions Confront Race, Pandemic, and Decolonization at National Gallery

The National Gallery Singapore is hosting two guest exhibitions that tackle contemporary themes arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. 'An Exercise of Meaning in a Glitch Season,' under the curation of Syaheedah Iskandar, highlights the work of ten artists, eight of whom represent ethnic minorities, as they delve into topics such as racial justice, technology, and capitalism. Key pieces include 'Sekali Lagi!' by nor, Priyageetha Dia's 3D bodies altered through data-mashing, and Clara Lim's collage reflecting on 1990s consumerism. Meanwhile, 'Time Passes,' curated by Samantha Yap, emphasizes care and the concept of time, featuring Divaagar's imagined reiki center and floral interventions by Diana Rahim. Both exhibitions, showcasing artists in their twenties and thirties, will be available until 21 February 2021, contributing to the local art community following significant show cancellations.
