Sinae Yoo's Muscle Car Aesthetics at The Gallery Apart, Rome
South Korean artist Sinae Yoo (Seoul, 1985; lives in Bern) presents her second solo exhibition in Italy at The Gallery Apart in Rome. The show revolves around the bombastic aesthetics of muscle cars, exploring their paradoxical lyricism through video, mural, and collage. The video installation combines cinematic breadth with iconic imagery: car panels vibrate to groovy sounds from the cabin, and a totemic cigarette burns mysteriously from both ends. A mural-banner, blending medieval and cartoonish styles, celebrates the metaphysical power of music, featuring notes by Hieronymus Bosch inscribed on a figure's buttocks from The Garden of Earthly Delights, accompanied by an eternal motto in a custom font. The collages are more overtly psychedelic, merging automotive details with incongruous elements.
