Simposio di Pittura: Six Years of Collective Painting in Italy

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Luigi Presicce, founder of the Simposio di Pittura, recounts the initiative's six-year history. The first symposium took place in 2018 at a late-19th-century villa in San Cesario di Lecce, now home to Fondazione Lac o le Mon. About twenty painters participated, including Alessandro Pessoli and Patrizio Di Massimo, though some declined. The format was unstructured: artists painted, cooked, and shared meals around a fire sculpture by Calori & Maillard. A subsequent exhibition, "Forme uniche nella continuità dello spazio" (2019), was held at Rizzuto Gallery in Palermo. The symposium has run editions in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. A recent exhibition at Nashira Gallery in Milan, curated by Presicce and Andreas Zampella, titled "Intorno alla stella," features one work from each of 68 participating artists, documenting the project's evolution. Presicce also mentions other Italian painter collectives: Landina in Omegna (founded by Lorenza Boisi in 2013) and Scuola di Santa Rosa in Florence (founded by Presicce and Francesco Lauretta in 2017).
