Simone Verde Plans to Make Uffizi Italy's Leading Museum Hub

institutional · 2026-04-26

Since taking the helm of the Gallerie degli Uffizi in 2023, Simone Verde aims to establish the museum as Italy's primary cultural center. During his address at Palazzo Grazioli in Rome, he outlined several projects, including a new research facility at the Casino del Cavaliere, a section dedicated to the history of the collection at the Galleria delle Statue e delle Pitture, and public access to the historic furnishings of Palazzo Pitti. The Tesoro dei Granduchi will be reinstalled, with rooms showcasing 15th- and 16th-century Flemish artists set to reopen on July 31, 2024. The Museo della moda is scheduled to launch on July 16, 2024. Additionally, a "dematerialized" ticketing system will be implemented, and the Corridoio Vasariano is expected to partially reopen by autumn 2024, along with plans for a children's museum.
