Simone Massi designs poster and title sequence for Pesaro Film Festival

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

The 61st edition of the Pesaro International Exhibition of New Cinema (June 14–21, 2025) will feature a poster and title sequence created by Italian director and animator Simone Massi. The festival program includes 14 competition films, a special event dedicated to Gianni Amelio, a focus on fascist war cinema, Chilean filmmaker Jeannette Muñoz, and US experimental artist Jerome Hiler (his first time in Italy), along with history lessons curated by Federico Rossin. Massi's poster is inspired by a frame from Dziga Vertov's 1929 experimental film "Man with a Movie Camera," which Vertov considered a manifestation of "cinema truth" (cinéma vérité). Massi describes his design as a tribute to cinema's ability to transform truth into fiction and vice versa, and to passion, experimentation, courage, and independence. Massi's debut animated feature "Invelle" (mixing 3D and traditional pencil animation) premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival. Between June 18 and 21, the festival will host screenings of his works, including "Invelle," and a public meeting with the artist. Massi views cinema as memory, resistance, poetry, and civic commitment, using it to give voice to the voiceless and recover lost memories.
