Simone Marconi: The Artist Who Makes Worlds in Suspension

Simone Marconi, born in Recanati in 1996, is an Italian artist currently based in Venice, where he works at the artist-run studio Zolfo Rosso and studies Visual Arts and Expanded Cinema at IUAV. His practice spans installation, sound, and performance, often combining media to create immersive environments that evoke a sense of precariousness and anticipation. Marconi's works, such as 'Too-Loose (Garza che Perde)' (2024) and 'Hiding From a Self I Am No Longer' (2025), explore themes of fragility, resistance, and the tension between presence and absence. He has exhibited at venues including Palazzo Diedo Berggruen Arts in Venice (2026), Spike Island in Bristol (2025), and Avantgarden Gallery in Milan (2023). In 2024, he was selected for the British Council Biennale Fellowship, developing the project 'Archetypes of Salvation'. His recent works include the short film 'Docile Sodom (Where Does It End?)' (2026) and the participatory deep listening piece 'Tidal Leads' (2025), commissioned for the Promenade Weekender in Weston-Super-Mare. In an interview with Artribune, Marconi discusses his interest in sound and language, his urban interventions series 'ID-E(enter)-E(exit)', and his return to Italy after seven years in Bristol, noting the country's changed but 'propositive' art scene. He is currently collaborating with sound artist Andrea Venanzoni on site-specific research and planning workshops for late 2026.
