Simone Forti Awarded Venice Biennale's Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement

Simone Forti, an American artist of Italian descent, has been honored with the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement at the Venice Biennale. Born in 1935, she is renowned for her groundbreaking 1961 series, Dance Constructions, which redefined everyday movements as choreographic expressions. Throughout her career, Forti has collaborated with prominent artists like Nam June Paik, Trisha Brown, and Steve Paxton. Her works are part of prestigious collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum in New York, as well as Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum and Vienna's Generali Foundation. A retrospective of her work is currently exhibited at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles until 2 April. Forti expressed her surprise at receiving the award, admitting she was unaware of its significance but felt privileged to represent her artistic peers. This accolade acknowledges her influential role in shaping performance art and choreography, impacting contemporary dance and visual arts worldwide.
