Simone Forti and Radha May at ICA Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-27

ICA Milano presents two concurrent exhibitions: the first Italian institutional solo show of Italian-American choreographer and artist Simone Forti, and a group show by the collective Radha May. Forti's exhibition, curated by Chiara Nuzzi and Alberto Salvadori, draws inspiration from her stay in Rome, where gallerist Fabio Argentini provided her a studio and introduced her to neighborhood cats. The show features works such as the video installation 'Largo Argentina' (1968-2012), color photographs of cats, the lightbox 'Fly' (1969), and documentation of movement studies through watercolors and drawings. Historic videos like 'Sleep Walkers' (1968-2017) and 'Three Grizzlies' (1974) reflect on animal behavior and zoo captivity. A scheduled performance cycle revives two of Forti's 1961 actions: 'Huddle' and 'Censor'. Radha May's exhibition 'When the Towel Drops, VOL 1|Italy', curated by Claudia D'Alonzo, presents an immersive installation exploring postwar censored cinematic material. The collective uses digitized 35mm film trims from the Bologna Censorship Archive and censorship commission dossiers, with pink lighting, to highlight suppressed female and queer sexuality in Italian postwar cinema.
