Simone Fattal's First Spanish Exhibition at IVAM

exhibition · 2026-04-23

The IVAM (Institut Valencià d’Art Modern) is showcasing 'Suspension of Disbelief,' marking the inaugural exhibition in Spain for artist Simone Fattal, who was born in Syria and raised in Lebanon. This exhibition includes 85 pieces created between 1999 and 2023, featuring sculptures, paintings, and photographs. Fattal, who fled the Lebanese civil war for California after studying philosophy in Paris, established The Post-Apollo Press before returning to her artistic pursuits at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1988. Her work, which combines elements from ancient Egyptian mythology, Sunni mysticism, and Greco-Roman traditions, features archetypal figures and draws inspiration from Sumerian stories, Arabic epics, and Sufi poetry. The event coincides with her being awarded the 2024 Julio González International Prize for her impact on contemporary art.
