Simona Pavoni's 'À Jour' at Mare Karina Gallery in Venice

Simona Pavoni (San Benedetto del Tronto, 1994) presents 'À Jour', a solo exhibition at Mare Karina gallery in Venice, curated by Giulia Mariachiara Galiano and Costanza Longanesi Cattani. The show transforms the gallery space through a play of concealment and perception, centered on the erotic dynamic of seeing and not seeing. Key works include 'L’insieme (Curtains)', pleated paper curtains with microscopic holes that divide the space into rooms and corridors, and 'Sottoinsieme', a triptych of glass doilies made from shattered tempered glass recomposed in resin. Pavoni's practice elevates embroidery—traditionally considered a minor or feminine art—into a meditative, repetitive process that she calls a 'grammar of the void', where the hole becomes a generative nucleus. Paintings like 'Pori (2980)' and 'Pori (5941)' feature white canvases pierced with as many holes as indicated in their titles, revealing hidden colors beneath. The installation, dominated by white and wood tones, turns color into a secret, inviting viewers to exercise attention as a bodily and cognitive act.
