Simon Starling's Two-Venue Survey at Mac/Val and Parc Saint-Léger
From September 18 to December 20, 2009, the Mac/Val in Vitry-sur-Seine and Parc Saint-Léger in Pougues-les-Eaux hosted a dual exhibition featuring British artist Simon Starling. The showcase included approximately ten pieces, such as Flaga, a modified Fiat 126. Mac/Val's retrospective, covering the years 1997 to 2009, delved into themes of replication and repetition, prominently displaying Work, Made-ready Kunsthalle Bern, which contrasts a Charles Eames chair with a Marin Sausalito bicycle. Starling, who won the Turner Prize in 2005, focuses on materiality and the narratives behind his creations. In Pougues-les-Eaux, he produced La Source (demi-teinte) specifically for the exhibition, reflecting the location's historical context. Additional significant works featured lithographs of a fossilized dinosaur feather and Autoxylopyrocycloboros (2006).
