Simon Büge's 'UNSURFACED' Debuts at Berlin's SEEFASHION26, Exposing Tailoring's Hidden Anatomy

At the SEEFASHION26 event in Berlin, held at ZK/U – Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik, Simon Büge, a bespoke tailor and designer based in Berlin, unveiled his graduate collection titled 'UNSURFACED.' This collection redefines conventional tailoring by revealing elements like canvas paddings, interfacings, loose basting threads, and raw edges, creating a visible narrative. A Weissensee School of Art alumnus, Büge advocates for radical transparency in fashion, using his work to critique the industry's fixation on rapid production and superficial perfection. Supported by the Economic Development Office of Berlin's Mitte District Council and PLATTE.Berlin, the runway show featured photography by Anita Schulte-Bunert, with creative direction from Sarah Ama Duah and Madlen Schmid, and styling by Tabassom Charaf. Büge's design approach treats technical execution as a form of research, and he aims to further explore tailoring as a process-oriented language, possibly incorporating modern technology. The collection's aesthetic has been likened to black sesame ice cream—simple at first glance yet intricate upon closer examination.
