artist · 2026-04-27

In an interview with Artribune, Simon Bonney, the creator of Crime & the City Solution, reflects on his artistic journey. He was born in Sydney in 1961 and established the band in 1977, later moving through cities like Melbourne, London, Berlin, and Detroit. Drawing inspiration from American artists, the group included notable members Mick Harvey and Roland S. Howard, achieving legendary status after their feature in Wim Wenders' 1987 film Wings of Desire. Bonney reformed the band in Detroit in 2012, releasing the album American Twilight. The History of Crime tour commenced in Europe in May 2022, with a new album expected in May 2023. He perceives art as boundless and recalls a striking experience of slaughtering a calf, highlighting the cycle of life and death.
