Silvie Defraoui's First Solo Exhibition in France at Centre Culturel Suisse
The Centre Culturel Suisse in Paris presents 'Sombras eléctricas', the first solo exhibition in France by Swiss artist Silvie Defraoui, running from October 10 to December 13, 2009. The show follows the death of her partner Cherif in 1994 and features video works including 'Exorcismus' (2004) and 'Résonances et courant d'air', the latter filmed in her Spanish home. A large horizontal installation, 'Nacht und Tag und Nacht' (2000), evokes cinema through a metal platform structure based on an oriental garden plan. The exhibition also includes 'Das Bild im Boden', a series of painted cement tiles collected from Spanish ruins since 1986, and the video 'Aphrodite Ping Pong', created after 9/11, showing objects exploding and reconstituting. Defraoui's work centers on the concept of projection, both physical and psychological, inviting viewers to actively engage with images and their subjective interpretations.
