Silvia Rosi's Solo Exhibition at Collezione Maramotti Explores African Diaspora in Italy Through Staged Self-Portraiture

exhibition · 2026-04-19

Silvia Rosi, who was born in 1992, launched her inaugural solo exhibition at Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia, Italy, which will be on display until 28 July 2024. This exhibition showcases photographs and moving images that reinterpret contemporary Italian identity through staged self-portraits and archival content. Rosi has compiled a community archive of family photographs depicting Africans in Italy prior to 2000. Her artistic approach is influenced by West African portrait traditions and highlights the theme of repetition, drawing from oral histories. Among her significant works is 'Disintegrata con Album di Famiglia.' Rosi is the recipient of the 2024 V&A Parasol Foundation Prize and the C/O Berlin Talent Award. Additionally, she is working on a project focused on women's labor in West African markets, inspired by family photos and modern artists.
