Silvia Giambrone and Marinella Senatore at Richard Saltoun Gallery, London
The Richard Saltoun Gallery in London will host 'Feminism in Italian Contemporary Art', a group exhibition featuring Silvia Giambrone and Marinella Senatore, curated by Paola Ugolini. Opening on 2 October 2019 during Frieze Art Week, the show is part of the gallery's '100% Women' initiative launched in March 2019 to support female artists and address gender inequality in the contemporary art market. Giambrone will reconstruct a domestic interior with a Persian carpet bearing a circular burn, alongside the installation 'Untitled with Thorns' symbolizing fragile human relationships. Senatore will present works across media, including 'Protest bike', a customized bicycle with megaphones for public protest expressions. Performances include Senatore's 'Protest Forms: Memory and Celebration. Public opinion descends upon the demonstrators' on 4 and 5 October, performed by dancer Paola Lattanzi, celebrating Japanese butoh dance as a protest against the destruction of life after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Giambrone's performance 'TRAUM' on 2 November explores trauma and the physical/psychic space of domestic intimacy. The exhibition runs until 9 November 2019 at 41 Dover Street, London.
