Silvia Camporesi Wins BNL Prize at MIA Fair with Prison Archive Photo

Silvia Camporesi won the BNL Gruppo BNP Paribas prize at MIA Fair in Milan, sponsored by the bank for five years. The jury included Gianluigi Colin (Corriere della Sera art director), Fabio Castelli (MIA scientific committee president), Gianluigi Ricuperati (writer and Domus Academy creative director), Francesca Malgara (MIA advisory board member), and Anna Boccaccio (BNL institutional relations director). Camporesi, presented by MLB Gallery (Maria Livia Brunelli) in Ferrara, won for her digital photograph "Planasia #12" (2014), part of the "Atlas Italiae" project inspired by Luigi Ghirri. The image depicts a disused archive in the former prison on Pianosa Island, capturing disorder, decay, and abandonment. The work was selected from 15 artists and will enter BNL's collection of over 5,000 pieces. Camporesi (born 1973) has exhibited widely in Italy and abroad, including Luxembourg and the Musei di San Domenico in Imola. The prize recognizes photography that documents real discomfort and the country's 'dirty conscience' rather than tourist-postcard beauty.
