Silvia Bigi's 'L'albero del latte' at Fondazione Dino Zoli

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Fondazione Dino Zoli in Forlì launches 'Who's next', a project focusing on emerging contemporary art, under new director Nadia Stefanel. The inaugural exhibition features photographer Silvia Bigi (Ravenna, 1985) and her series 'L'albero del latte'. Bigi's work originates from found images of 'vergini giurate' (sworn virgins) from the Balkans, discovered before a residency in Dubrovnik. She recontextualizes these images to critique gender constraints, linking the Balkan Kanun code to Romagna dialect through a fabricated discovery narrative. The exhibition includes a sound piece by poet Luisa Turci, reciting laws embroidered on linen, and works like 'Il corredo della sposa' (a dowry chest with an eel) and 'Esercizi di preparazione ai doveri della prima notte' (gymnastic exercises for wedding night duties). Bigi contrasts 'milk' (female nurturing) with 'blood' (male reproduction) in 'Il sangue e il latte', using portraits of Kosovo and Montenegrin virgins mixed with coriander seeds and soil. The show runs at Fondazione Dino Zoli in Forlì.
