Silvano Tessarollo's Dresden-Inspired Installations at La Giarina Arte Contemporanea
Silvano Tessarollo (b. 1956, Bassano del Grappa) presents 'Prima che il gallo canti' at La Giarina Arte Contemporanea in Verona. The exhibition evokes the aftermath of the February 13–15, 1945 Allied bombing of Dresden, which devastated the city. Tessarollo's installations recreate domestic interiors where objects have been deformed by fire, appearing monstrous yet hinting at pre-war life. All works date from 2007, set aside until the current pandemic seemed an appropriate moment for display. Bathtubs with bone remnants and rooster figurines recur, with brown as the dominant color. Two large paper works from 2005, 'Studio per interno 1' and 'Studio per interno 5', surprise with chromatic virulence reminiscent of Chaïm Soutine's anguished still lifes. The exhibition is curated by Claudio Cucco (b. 1954, Malles Venosta), a philosopher and art critic based in Rovereto, who directs the Library of Calliano.
