Silent Times Group Exhibition at Kunsthal Extra City Explores Absence of Voice
'Silent Times,' a group exhibition at Kunsthal Extra City in Antwerp, will debut on October 25, exploring the theme of silence as a lack of words, voices, and political expression in modern art. Featured artists include Basir Mahmood, Adam Broomberg & Rafael Gonzalez, Taysir Batniji, and Younes Zarhoni, all of whom have varied migration histories. Curator Joachim Naudts emphasizes that silence transcends mere absence of sound, embodying both oppressive suppression and subtle resistance. This exhibition represents a new direction for Extra City, shifting focus to 'the word' following a series centered on violence and safe spaces. A public program set for January 2025 will host performances and discussions, culminating in the 'Break the Silence' weekend from March 28-30, 2025. Full program details will be revealed in December 2024.
