Siena's Santa Maria della Scala unveils new Vecchietta museum route
To commemorate the 600th anniversary of Lorenzo di Pietro, commonly referred to as Vecchietta (1410–1480), the Santa Maria della Scala museum complex in Siena has opened a permanent exhibition. This showcase will be available until March 29, 2026, and aims to place his artworks back into their original contexts: the Sagrestia Vecchia, Pellegrinaio, and Chiesa della Santissima Annunziata. The initiative, backed by the Comune di Siena, was envisioned by Fondazione president Cristiano Leone and curated by Giulio Dalvit, with design by Francesco Librizzi Studio. Notable features include the relocated Arliquiera, restored frescoes in the Sagrestia Vecchia, Vecchietta's bronze Christ in the Santissima Annunziata, and his earliest known piece in the Pellegrinaio. A significant monograph titled Vecchietta is also part of the exhibition.
