Siena project uses art to deconstruct gender stereotypes in schools

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

Fondazione Musei Senesi has launched 'Arte Ri – Generata', an educational project aimed at students in Siena province. The initiative uses art historical analysis to challenge gender stereotypes perpetuated by patriarchal culture, focusing on iconographies that marginalized women or depicted violence. The project includes in-school workshops and activities across local museums, exploring how female roles have evolved. Carolina Taddei, coordinator of the foundation, emphasized the goal of fostering 'gender consciousness' among youth. The program has already begun and will run for three years, with additional study days and conferences open to the community.
