Siena Plans Galleria del Palio by 2018 to Narrate Historic Horse Race

Under the leadership of Mayor Bruno Valentini, the city of Siena has unveiled plans for the Galleria del Palio, a cultural venue dedicated to the historic Palio horse race, with an anticipated launch in 2018. A scientific committee has created guidelines for the project, which are open to public input until October 15, 2016. The gallery seeks to enrich the Palio's story while supporting the 17 contrada museums rather than competing with them. However, the Magistrato delle Contrade has expressed concerns about the potential impact on their museums. The Galleria will showcase items from the municipal collection, a timeline of the Palio's history, thematic exhibits, and the development of the Drappellone, featuring artists such as Dine and Guttuso. The city has set aside €75,000 for modifications, with content development slated for completion by late 2016.
