Siena Opens Competition for Palio Banner Honoring Accademia degli Intronati

Siena's municipality has announced a competition for the Drappellone, which will be awarded to the victorious contrada during the Palio di Siena on July 2, 2025. This banner will commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Accademia degli Intronati, established in 1525. Artists who have been born or have lived in the Siena province for a minimum of five years are invited to participate by submitting a 1:5 scale design that features traditional symbols and allegorical themes. The submission deadline is set for January 31, 2025. Mayor Nicoletta Fabio approved the competition on November 12, 2024, and a jury will choose the winning design, with the artist receiving €1,000 and 60 days to finalize the piece. Unselected designs will be exhibited publicly.
