Siena Civic Museums launch inclusive multilingual apps with PNRR funds

The Civic Museums of Siena (Museo Civico in Piazza del Campo, Santa Maria della Scala opposite the Duomo, and Museo dell'Acqua at Fonti di Pescaia) have introduced new multifunctional, multilingual apps funded by PNRR resources obtained through a call by the Direzione Musei of the Italian Ministry of Culture. The apps, available free on Apple Store and Google Play, guide visitors with route directions and detailed descriptions of spaces and collections. They support Italian, English, French, German, and Italian Sign Language for hearing-impaired visitors. QR codes at museum entrances enable easy access; the apps work online and offline, and tablets are available for those without personal devices. Charging stations allow visitors to rest and recharge mobile devices. Councilor for social services Micaela Papi stated the project is based on universal accessibility, considering people with disabilities as active members of society, and expressed confidence that the apps mark a new chapter in museum access.
